Organizing for Romance

You know what’s not sexy…..

Polka music, global warming, soul patches, the smell of sports gear, the inequitable division of household labor....  While most of these are out of our control, we like to think that we CAN control the romance-killers lurking within our own homes.  We're looking at you, pile of laundry spilling out of the hamper. When all of the unfinished tasks on your home to-do list are staring you in the face, it's almost impossible to shift gears from home manager/parent to the relaxed and fun-loving human that your partner fell in love with.

This month, we're offering tips to execute a rapid fire re-romancing of your bedroom.  Get your Target cart and your clean sheets ready and let's save Valentine's Day!

Step #1: The Nightstand Glow Up

We're not usually proponents of fixing a problem by bringing new things into your home... but think of this as your Valentine's gift to yourself and your partner.  First, clear everything off your nightstands and give them a wipe down.  Now you have a clean slate ready to showcase a few self-care items to help you relax and feel like yourself again!  We like to use a beautiful tray to group items on the nightstand to keep it from looking cluttered.  When displaying small items, a tray keeps the grouping looking intentional and tidy and is less visually busy than 5 items spread across a surface.  Here are our favorite nightstand luxuries:

  • Marble tray:  We love this marble tray from Target and it comes in black and white for a lovely "his and hers" moment.

  • A high-end hand cream:  Beautiful, refillable, with a built in magnet top for storing your rings.

  • Lip mask:  A soothing overnight treatment to pamper your pout.

  • A multi-purpose candle:  This fabulous candle is designed to be used as massage oil once melted.

  • A minimal charging dock:  Make what's necessary beautiful with this sleek charging station.

Add a small bowl of gourmet chocolate, fresh flowers, and a beautiful striker pot stocked with matches for extra credit.

Step #2: The Bedroom Blitz

Now, let's get the bedroom ready and free from distraction.  First, get some fresh sheets on the bed and fluff those pillows.  Put everything that has a home back in its home.  Next, grab a laundry basket and gather up everything that doesn't have a home.  Focus on clearing flat surfaces and floor space.  Get that basket out of the bedroom!  You will have to deal with these items at some point, but for now we're focused on clearing the space for connection.  If you find yourself unsure of what to do with the items in the basket (or baskets...), we know two ladies who would love to sort through that mess.  We'll be waiting for your calls on February 15th.

Whew!  You've worked hard!  Well done.  Now you should be looking at a cozy space with fresh sheets, clutter-free surfaces, a pampering bedside table glow up, and zero reminders of the stresses outside this room.

We're always talking about how organization can help you make time for the things and people that matter most. This is really a gift that keeps on giving.  Instead of a lovely dinner out, consider a gift that sets the stage for romance throughout the year.

And remember, the most fabulous partners give Rooms to Breathe Gift Cards!
